Feb 2, 2010 · I hate doing this way, inspector does want the truss nailed, and instead they want the use of a clip. On one job, truss spec. sheet called out that interior walls must float ½” from truss and use goal post clips. We had to pack up all exterior walls with ½” plywood. Its not easy seting trusses when you can’t nail the bottom.

We're in Dallas so we don't engineer for tremendous live loads for an asphalt shingle and we feel comfortable with 16" oc rafter spacing and 7/16" OSB decking. I'm contemplating upgrading to 1/2" or even 5/8" OSB though to reduce roof sag hopefully to nil.

Calculate your load (lb/ft) and see if your rafters will hold up. If the spacing was specified on the plans, then all these calculations should have already been done.

Oct 12, 2007 · Last house we built with attic truss the span was 36' and the length of the portion of house with attic trusses was 46'. So with 24" spacing there were 23 trusses, with a 16" spacing there would have been 34 trusses. There was a space for a stairway that was 3.5' wide and this is why the truss count is off by one.

I would get the truss mfg to work it out --they will do it -- it'll have the eng stamp on it and they'll do it in an hour rather than many more hours you'll put to it.
