From archeological evidence, use of Tijeras Canyon dates back 8,000 to 9,000 years ago, with permanent occupation occurring between 1000 and 1100 AD until around 1450. Apaches camped in the canyon on their way to raid the Rio Grande Pueblos.

The Village of Tijeras is a very old community, rich in culture. Excavation of the San Antonio and Tijeras Pueblos yielded evidence that human land use in the area dates back to the 1200s. Populations shifted throughout the centuries as Hispanic and Indian.

Tijeras is a village in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 465 at the 2020 census. [4] . It is part of the Albuquerque metropolitan area. The Tijeras Pueblo Archaeological Site is located in Tijeras at 35° 04′ 30″ N, 106° 23′ 01.″. The site was occupied by Ancestral Pueblo people from about 1313 CE to 1425 CE.

The final subseries concerns projects undertaken at Tijeras, and Villanueva, containing a discussion paper on the historical finds, a social impact assessment proposal, correspondence, field notes and interviews with residents of village of Tijeras, an archeological paper and reports, as well as news clippings regarding the excavation.

In 2019, EMHS published its monumental history book, Timelines of the East Mountains, more than 700 pages of maps, stories, and history of the people and places in an area covering 400 square miles. The all-volunteer project took three years; the book is now in its third printing.
