Sep 28, 2023 · the new XR2 gen 2 chip has ASIC blocks for hardware acceleration. they offloaded a lot of these things from the main CPU/GPU. it's a VR focused chip, unliked the vanilla snapdragon phone version (or the original XR2). in theory, it should be even faster than they say because they freed up a lot of the overhead the Quest 2 had.

Jan 4, 2024 · The difference with the quest 3 will be much bigger than most people think because the XR2 GEN 2 SoC in the quest 3 is underclocked so a device with the XR2+ GEN 2 that works on full speed with all cores will blow the quest 3 out of the water and even a device with a full clocked all cores XR2 GEN 2 will be much faster than the quest 3.

Oct 5, 2022 · According to UploadVR, the XR2 has 1.25 TFLOPS and from John Carmack, the Quest 2's GPU is running 'mostly up to speed'. From another blogger who did detailed speed comparison tests, they found the GPU in the Quest 2's XR2 was clocked at around ~15% slower than full GPU clock speed. Thus, it has around just 1 TFLOPS.
