May 31, 2021 · This icon persists on all screens--home screen, secondary launcher screens, browser, emails, etc. I can move this icon around each screen but it always snaps itself to the right or left edge of the screen. If I get more than one person sending me a text, I get more than one floating icon on my screen(s).

Sep 11, 2022 · Welcome to Android Central! It's the Android S (i.e., Android 12) icon. It usually shows up after a system update (while still on 12), and often represents the phone finishing the update (perhaps optimizing apps). Although I'm not sure why this should show up every time you restart, unless the phone keeps optimizing apps for some reason.
