The British Rail Class 313 was a dual-voltage electric multiple unit (EMU) train built by British Rail Engineering Limited 's Holgate Road carriage works between February 1976 and April 1977.

Jan 28, 2024 · Owing to a surplus of 313s on the Great Northern Electrics route in 1986 a decision was made to transfer 313 001 – 016 to the North London Link & Watford DC routes in London to replace the Class 501 units.

Aug 21, 2023 · It has been offically annouced that Class 313 121 has entered preservation at the Fife Heritage Railway, based in Leven. A piece of railway history will be safeguarded by a Fife charity after an agreement was reached with Network Rail. As stated below from member SERA01UK from the 313 thread.

Built at York Works from February 1976, the new units were classified as 313s, numbered 313001 to 313064 and finished in the standard blue/grey livery with yellow driving ends. As well as being the first production second-generation units, the 313s were also the first dual-voltage EMUs, able to work off AC overhead wires or DC third-rail.

The Class 313 is a type of dual-voltage electric multiple unit (EMU) train built by BREL York Works between February 1976 and April 1977. They were the first second-generation EMUs to be constructed for British Rail and the first British Rail units with both a pantograph for 25 kV AC overhead lines and shoegear for 750 V DC third rail supply.
