A South Carolina inmate who has spent more than half his life on death row has chosen to die by lethal injection instead of by electric chair or firing squad later this month. Marion Bowman Jr., 44, is the third inmate set to die since the state was able to restart executions after a 13-year pause last year.

Death row inmate Marion Bowman chose to die by lethal injection, while still suing for more information about the drug the state will use to kill him, his attorneys said Friday. The decision came a day after the state Supreme Court turned down an attempt by Bowman’s attorneys to halt his Jan.

Few options remain for Marion Bowman Jr., who is set to be executed on Jan. 31, 2025 for the murder of Kandee Martin in Dorchester County.

Marion Bowman Jr. was sentenced to death for killing his childhood friend Kandee Martin in February 2001 and burning her car, with body stuffed in the trunk.
