SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (SLAC) was originally called Stanford Linear Accelerator Center when it was established in 1962 on some land owned by Stanford University in California.
I came to the SLAC in 1988 when they were commissioning the Stanford Linear Collider, which I worked on for eight years. This electron/positron 46 GeV linear collider was a very challenging machine.
