New data collected by the FDA has found that montelukast can bind to brain cells, which may explain the risk of mental health adverse effects linked to its use.

The researchers found that the drug, sold under brand name Singulair and generically as montelukast, attaches to multiple brain receptors critical to psychiatric functioning.
