Bursting with action and excitement, The Lost Colony is the exciting musical re-telling of America’s first English colony. Nestled along the shores of America’s most historic and mysterious island, over 100 professional actors, technicians and designers have gathered every summer since 1937 to honor the memory of the brave people who came here to build a new country. The production is as epic as their story. Written by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Paul Green, The Lost Colony is a cultural treasure and the best family entertainment on the Outer Banks!

I have seen this production at least once in each decade since the 60's . This latest attempt is poorly conceived and poorly executed. Instead of a outdoor drama of which it is known, respected, and … Full review by Marcus G

My family of 11 went to see this on a lovely Wednesday evening on July 3rd, as busy week. We were center rows F & G and the seats and view of the stage were great. The acting was great, the staging… Full review by BPay1

What time should I expect to get out of the parking lot after the show? (Main concern: will I be able to catch the midnight ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke?)

We were at the show last week on a Monday night. The show ended at around 1030. We didn't have any trouble getting out of the parking lot. It's a big lot, so there wasn't a long line or anything. It took longer to get out of the theater than the parking lot. Everyone leaves at the same time and the theater is a good 150 feet or so from the edge of the parking lot. I believe it's a good one hour drive or more to get back down to the ferry. I believe you would make it, but you wouldn't have a lot of time to spare.
Are they advantages in sitting in certain areas other than costs? Advantages of front row vs further back when taking in the play, ocean scene background, etc?

Yes in my opinion you can sit too close at most outdoor dramas and The Lost Colony is no exception. Action takes place on all three sides, entrances and exits, dialogue is delivered and the scope of show scenes require your being able to take in the entire stage. The seats closest to the stage are below the level I am comfortable with if you enjoy seeing the feet of the players. Being a theatre major I always prefer to sit above the stage floor level to see the feet and appreciate the staging of the director and the relationships between the characters demonstrated by their placement. We sat on row O and enjoyed good sight lines to all the action and had no problem hearing everything. Even then some action started behind us. As for the ocean/sound you never actually see the water even though it is called the Waterside Theatre. However the water does play an important role in the play! Ill not spoil that for you.
