Are you assuming that it is "beautiful in the fall" or just your opinion? IMHO, it was in need of tremendous repair. 3 tours per day is certainly inadequate. I was thoroughly disappointed. Too many exhibits were closed.

I have been in the Fall and the foliage, coupled with pond in the back is gorgeous. Unfortunately maintenance is a challenge for most of the New York/New England Shaker Villages I have visited. Hancock is the best preserved I have seen.

Not worth bothering with the tour. Go in your own time and at your own pace. Many of the buildings have volunteers there who will be happy to talk to you and give information. There is a good cafe to replenish you, a lovely garden to sit in and rest overlooking the lake, and most of the buildings have seats or chairs you can rest in for a while. Don't miss the meeting house! Enjoy your visit.
