In 1955, Studebaker merged with Packard and acquired the Mercedes-Benz USA distribution. Two short years later, Mercedes-Benz USA approached Fred to be the first dealership to represent the franchise on Long Island. After over a decade of success, Ideal Auto Sales became known as Lakeview Auto Sales & Service, one of the top Mercedes-Benz dealers in the nation. Edward Meyer, Fred’s son, succeeded his father in 1971. With even further growth of the franchise and greater demand for inventory, additional land was needed.
