Amazing lunar scenarios. My suggestion is to prefer Santo Amaro Lencois than the Lencois near to Barreirinhas. Near to Barreirinhas the best is no doubt Lagoa Bonita while Lagoa Azul can be skipped. Full review by globaltrotter69

we went to this park in january. although this is not best period to go there (some of the lagoons are dry) the park is always spectacular. better to go there immediately after the wet season. Full review by מוטי ל
Hi everyone, I am planning to do the 3-4 day trekking from Atins across Parque Nacional dos Lencois Maranhenses. Do I need to book this in advance or can I organize a day or two beforehand, once I'm in Atins. Your advice is much appreciated.

Hi Chris, I don’t think you can trek on your own through the National Park simply because it is a protected area and there’s time slots for people to visit it. It is not allowed to stay overnight. There might be tours offering routes that can take you around and further out from the usual tours but none will offer a chance to stay in the park. You have atins as a starting point, barreirinhas as another entry spot for the park and Santo Amaro do Maranhão. It is easier to book it once you arrive to Atins. Have a great time!
